About a week and a half ago I self published my first e-book on Amazon Kindle. I am excited to say that after 4 days of a 5 day promotion offering "What to Wear?" for free, it is #2 on Amazon's Top 100 Free in the category of Special Education. I know that standings will change once the promotion is over and it is no longer a free Kindle book, but let me tell you, it is SO COOL to see my book on a list like this. The free promotion goes through today, so head over to the Amazon listing for "What to Wear?" and get your free copy today!! If you are so inclined, I would be honored if you would leave a review as well. Enjoy!

Since I was eight years old I have wanted to be a published author. While I am still working and hoping to one day be published traditionally, I am so excited to announce that I have taken a bit of a leap and have published my first book through Amazon Kindle! Even though the world of writing and publishing is something that I have been trying to learn about sporadically since I was a child, the process feels so big and daunting. I knew that I wanted to learn how to use Amazon's KDP and self publish a book through Amazon Kindle. I know that I am the type of person who learns best when doing. I have learned from experience that it is always best for me to start small and build from there. Taking all of those things into consideration, I decided that my first KDP project was going to be a short social story. So, without further ado, may I present to you my first Amazon Kindle listing! How incredibly cool is that?! I am so excited! Click on the picture above to go take a look (there is a "look inside" feature where you can read a couple pages of the book and see more of the beautiful illustrations by the talented Antonia Underwood), follow me on Amazon, and if you do purchase the book, please leave a review!
Thank you so much for sharing in this excitement with me! Check back soon for more updates in the blog and on the website. That quote from "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" is one that struck me as a child and has stayed with me for years. In the unpredictability and sometimes Twilight Zone-esque happenings of 2020, this quote feels even more relevant. Many are finding themselves with so much more time at home than they had a year ago, but at the same time we are balancing our responsibilities in ways that have very blurred lines. Work, school, extracurricular activities, and family time for many of us are all happening in the same place. I don't know about you, but I have had really work to change my mindset and how I approach responsibilities I have had for years! With all the happenings of the past few months I have not been posting like I had hoped I would, so I wanted to take this opportunity to let anyone checking in know what I have been working on! Curious how Dominic overcomes his distractions mentioned in my last post? I'm in the process of preparing that manuscript to submit to publishers. I hope that you will be able to get to know Dominic and his creative solutions better very, very soon! If you've explored this website, you may know I am a preschool special education teacher. One tool I use a lot in my classroom are social stories. I have written a social story about choosing what to wear for the day and have had the opportunity to team up with a talented young artist. The illustrations are now completed and I am working on preparing the book as an e-book for Amazon Kindle. I will keep you updated! I am SO excited to learn this process and put our project out there for you to enjoy! Most of the projects I have in the works are shorter stories meant for magazines or picture book submissions. For months, though, I have had this persistent idea for a longer book for middle graders. I tried to ignore it for months because it feels a bit out of my comfort zone, but have given in and started to work on it to see where it takes me. I have found it requires a different approach than when working on my shorter stories, but am excited to see the road this project takes! Thank you for checking in! I will try to post more often and hopefully have some more content for the website ready to go soon!
How does Dominic do it? Hopefully you will be able to find out soon! Check back to see updates on this story's journey!
For a little over a month now the world has been turned a little topsy turvy. Everyone's schedules have been altered. Schools are closed. Businesses are shutting their doors hopeful to open them sooner rather than later. Families are getting a lot of togetherness. Now that things are settling as much as they can settle and we are finding a glimpse of a routine at our house, I am going to try work more on my passion projects. This website and my writing is one of them. I will be working to add more content and make the site more user friendly, so make sure you check back soon!
I love my children dearly. They are great kids, but like most children they behave better for others than they do for Mom and Dad. Any kids reading this, have you noticed you do this too? If I’m honest though, if I had to choose that is the way I would want it to be...assuming behaving all the time is off the table... My youngest puts up a big fight when it is time to do homework, he especially doesn’t like to read. He has it in his mind that he can’t--which isn’t true. I’ve tried many different ways to entice him to read everyday and he has fought me every step of the way. One day, I finally sat down in frustration and wrote what I thought would take him about fifteen to twenty minutes to read: Jim and Mark are best friends. They have fun in school, but they don’t like to do their reading homework. Every night they are supposed to read for twenty minutes. “Why is it,” Jim asks, “that twenty minutes of reading feels so much longer than twenty minutes of swimming?” “Or video games.” “Or playing ninjas.” Mark’s mother suggested if they found the right book they might feel differently. Jim and Mark weren’t so sure, but, since they still needed to do their homework they decided they would try to find the right book. “Well, where should we look first?” Mark asked. “Good question. I think we should make a list and then decide,” Jim said pulling a notebook and pencil out of his backpack. The boys sat down to brainstorm. Needless to say, my youngest was not as amused by this as I was. But, he read it. Now I need some help. What books do you think Jim and Mark should put on their list of books that they are interested in reading? Why do you think they should give them a try? What books do you think they should put on the list they aren’t so sure about? Why? Comment below or write to me through the contact page on this site! Check back to see what happens next!
If you have found my page as I'm working on getting it up and going, welcome! Please check back soon to get to know me a little better and see what I'm working on! Head to the Contact page to add yourself to my email list to stay up to date on new projects and hopefully, one day soon, a book release!
