Ever since pre-teen-me was sitting in the reference section of my local library hand-copying information on publishers from "Writer's Market," the path to becoming a published author has been an enticing mystery. A puzzle box that I have been working to figure out so I can discover the wonderful secrets hidden inside. In 2018, I decided that I wanted to more seriously start working towards my childhood dream of being a traditionally published author. I found Katie Davis' podcast "Writing for Children" and decided that I was going to start the podcast at the very beginning and try and absorb everything I could. I wanted to learn the secrets of the trade! I listened, I looked up the podcast notes and took notes. I even created a file folder in my google drive! I was hooked and the more I listened, the more I began to believe that my dream was obtainable. Fast forward 2.5 years, I have learned SO MUCH. The more I dig into the world of authors, the more I learn that I am still very much at the beginning of this journey and that there is still SO MUCH left to for me to learn. So, how do I keep moving forward? What is my plan going to be this year? This year, I am participating in Storystorm. It is a great way to learn from others in the field I am trying to become a part of while working to generate story ideas. I am going to write, write, probably do some dishes and laundry, and then write some more. I am going to continue to find authors to follow on Twitter and learn from them. (Who knew that Twitter could be such an author life-line?!) I am going to continue to work to create a social media presence as an aspiring author through this site, FB, and Twitter. I have joined SCBWI!! I am going to participate in critique groups. I am going to continue to have fun and learn about this world I have been working to better understand for decades. I am going to put myself out there and submit manuscripts! I have a feeling it is going to be a year of learning and growth! It is going to be a good year! :) I can't wait to see what 2021 brings! Thank you for being a part of this journey!
